41001 Cato Chief Semi-Recessed 10 lb Plastic Fire Extinguisher Cabinet, ADA Projection

The Cato 41001, still widely called the 405-10, is the Chief Semi-Recessed plastic fire extinguisher cabinet. It sets into the wall and leaves only a 2-7/8 inch trim projection, which is inside the 4 inch limit the ADA standards put on objects protruding into a circulation path. That is the reason to choose it: a surface mount cabinet in a corridor often is not compliant, and this one is.

Cato's own figures are the tub inside dimensions above. The Strike First and Amerex models listed are the ones whose published cylinder diameter clears the tub width and depth and whose overall height clears the tub height; the published width of a portable extinguisher includes its hose and handle, which sit beside the cylinder. Units marked tight fit have less than 1/4 inch to spare, so measure the extinguisher you actually own before ordering.

Mounting height: Activar's method is to take the wall opening height and work back from the 48 inch handle limit. For this cabinet's 25 inch wall opening with a centred pull, that is 48" - (25" / 2) = 35-1/2" above the finished floor to the bottom of the opening.
